Brushing your teeth is a great way to deeply clean your smile each day. However, it’s only effective if you have the proper technique. So, to help you clean your smile the correct way, our Melissa Maus & Associates team recommends using the following steps:

Step 1: Hold your brush at a 45-degree angle to the gums and move the brush back and forth over your teeth, in short, wide strokes.

Step 2: Make sure to thoroughly brush each tooth by scrubbing the inner, outer, and chewing surface. To clean the inside surface of the tooth, hold the brush vertically and make several up-and-down strokes.

Step 3: Finally, brush your tongue to remove bacteria and to freshen your breath.

In addition to these steps, we also recommend using a toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste that has been approved by the American Dental Association. If these tools have the ADA Seal of Approval, then they have been tested and approved for safety and effectiveness.

We also recommend flossing your smile once a day with a strong, beneficial flossing product. For the best results possible, you can also rinse your mouth once a day with antibacterial mouthwash.
