Relax In the Dental Chair With Sedation Dentistry

Posted .

Are you fearful of visiting the dental office? If so, our dentist and team would be happy to help you feel more relaxed in the dental chair with sedation dentistry options such as oral sedation and nitrous oxide.

Our dentists can employ the use of sedatives to help patients of all ages feel calmer while receiving dental treatment and enjoy the most comfortable experience possible. Two of the methods we use to help our patients relax include oral sedation and nitrous oxide.

Oral Sedation
Oral sedation is administered as a pill that you will take prior to your appointment to feel calm by the time you sit in the chair for treatment. The effects produced can be compared to those of Valium, another calming medication. You will remain awake and responsive the whole time, but any anxiety you are feeling will disappear.

Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous oxide is also known as laughing gas. We will place a small mask over your nose when you sit in the chair, and this mask releases a flow of gas to help you feel relaxed and even euphoric. As you continue to inhale deeply, you will relax further. You will not fall unconscious during this time but will stay awake, and the effects will begin to wear off as soon as Dr. Melissa Maus extracts the mask.
